BACKGROUNDTaehyun is the youngest of three children born to Doctor Choi Youngmin and lawyer Oh Hana. Raised with his brother Taeho and sister Joohyun in a luxurious apartment in Gangnam, Taehyun never wanted for anything... except, perhaps, quality time with his parents. With their busy jobs, they had very little time for their children, and the majority of their early childhood was spent with Grandpa and Grandma Oh. Grandma Oh loved to cook, and was something of a drill sergeant in the kitchen, always making sure all three kids had something to do. Taehyun was the only one of them who enjoyed it. He asked questions and tried to learn something new every time he was in the kitchen. It was somewhere around this time that the boy decided that someday, he would be a chef. His parents, of course, had other ideas. Like the majority of Korean parents, they were determined that their children would be doctors, or lawyers, or even ambassadors. As such, the moment they were old enough to be enrolled in academies, their schedules were packed full, the children forced to study as much science, math, and English as they could fit into their brains. Taehyun wasn't interested in most of it, but he did what he had to do to at least pass. He spent a lot of time studying English, though, knowing that his best options for culinary school were likely international. In his second year of high school, he told his parents that he intended to be a chef, and immediately became the disappointment of the family. Taeho was already in his second year of a medical degree, and Joohyun had recently been accepted into a school of dentistry. To his parents, the culinary arts were a trade, and their precious son could do better. He was insistent, though, and in the end his parents agreed on the condition that he pay his own way through school. Taehyun agreed. Things have been frosty between them since. (He's still pretty sure that their "agreement" was really just their way of trying to dissuade him.) After high school and his mandatory service, Taehyun was accepted at SICA (Sol Institute of Culinary Arts) in Daejeon. His dreams of an international culinary school were dashed somewhat by needing to pay his own way, but in the end his English skills came in handy anyway due to his school being largely comprised of international students. He moved to Daejeon and into a dorm on campus. On Fridays, after classes, Taehyun packs two sets of clothes and takes the train into Seoul, where he tends the bar on Friday and Saturday nights at a club in Itaewon. He sleeps between his shifts at a sauna before heading back to university early on Sunday morning. During school vacation, he rents the cheapest hostel room he can find in Seoul and works as many shifts as he can at the bar to save extra money. It's not easy. He's busy all the time, and he barely squeaks through month to month, not really having a lot of spare money outside of food and school and transport. But he's been doing it for almost a whole year now. He can make it work. The important thing is, after all, that he's following his dream. He knows in the long run that it will be worth all this. PERSONALITYStubborn and headstrong, Taehyun is the sort of person who will do whatever it takes to get what he wants. (Literally whatever.) He is highly motivated and competitive by nature and seeks excellence in any field that interests him. If he's not interested, though, he'll make his way through on auto-pilot, doing what has to be done and no more. Despite a serious case of resting bitch face, he is naturally friendly, a little silly even, and playful and flirty when dealing with almost any guy he comes across. He cares a lot about his friends and loved ones. Sometimes he can become too attached, both to people and things. He has a love of all things luxurious, from designer goods to gourmet foods. But he's also the type to keep collections of "junk" from meaningful relationships. He can be quite possessive of his loved ones and personal possessions. MUNTIME ZONE: UTC + 9 (KST) AGE: over 18.
